Nurse Amanda says she's way ahead

So says that poll she commissioned. As for her opponent's crushing lead in fundraising? "Money doesn't buy elections in Portland," Fritz said. Boy, that wasn't what she said when she was pushing taxpayer campaign financing on us. Back then, she said: "If I weren't a Voter Owned Elections (VOE) candidate, I wouldn't have raised anything like $150,000 and wouldn't have a very real chance of winning against an affluent incumbent."

Maybe Commissioner Fritz could hire the vote counters too?

As she says, incumbency counts for a lot.

Really glad she's going to pay the new Office of Equity Manager $130K - an office of 12 people. I guess, to be equitable, they need to pay every manager of 12 people a similar amount. Amanda is clearly a government finance genius.

Seems to me she might have made more points by saying that our city needs to be prudent about spending now on a new office.

Let us hope that come the New Year, we will have candidates other than insiders and/or those whose main interest is in getting an elected position.

Average homeowner property taxes are now over $4,000 per year, or about $500 to $1,000 more than surrounding counties. With the likes of Fritz, Novick and other such clones the local property tax bill is no doubt headed much higher, in excess of the minimum 3% increase per year.

I am not sure why the citizens water reform group isn't seeking to spin out the water and sewer bureaus into a separate independent government entity from Portland city hall. This is the only true way to get a lid on cityhall's reach into the water and sewer bureau revenues.

My property tax bill was cut in half when I moved from SW Portland to Tigard. The new place is 200 square feet smaller on lot that is 4x bigger. Granted, it takes a full hour to mow the lawn now, and Tigard P.D. is ruthless.

Bonus: weekly trash pickup and fewer bike Nazis.

Mr.Tee: Please don't rub it in, or send me your real estate agents phone number.

Of course a poll taken before the campaign really gets going shows that an incumbent has more name recognition. This poll didn't tell Amanda Fritz anything she didn't already know.

The real purpose of this poll was to get the press to run with a "Fritz leading in the polls" headline so she can use it to raise money. Political contributors are more likely to give to a candidate they think can win, and now she can point to the Oregonian's headline as evidence that she's going to win.

Political theater at its finest.
