I love your taste, Jack! I always enjoy your weekend musical treats.

Nina Simone was one of my very favorite artists. What a treasure! She and I had a dear mutual friend, and I was fortunate to see one of her last performances at a local theater in Oakland. She could barely walk to the piano, and only sang a handful of tunes, but it was a love fest between her and those of us lucky enough to spend that special evening in her presence.

Nina was one of a kind. Thanks to the reader who pointed me to that clip the other night, when Jesse Jackson was in Portland to protest police brutality.
