Now dash away, dash away, dash away, 'dogs!

The Big Daddies of pro football don't stop for shopping, and so players in our underdog game have work to do in the prognostication department:

14 JACKSONVILLE vs. New England
13 TENNESSEE at Green Bay
13 CLEVELAND at Denver
9.5 OAKLAND at Carolina
9.5 MINNESOTA at Houston
6.5 KANSAS CITY vs. Indianapolis
5.5 ARIZONA vs. Chicago
4.5 PHILADELPHIA vs. Washington
4 BUFFALO at Miami
4 CINCINNATI at Pittsburgh
4 DETROIT vs. Atlanta (Saturday, 5:30 p.m. PST)
3 ST. LOUIS at Tampa Bay
1 NEW ORLEANS at Dallas
1 SAN DIEGO at New York Jets
1 BALTIMORE vs. New York Giants
1 SEATTLE vs. San Francisco

This is the next-to-last week of the regular season, followed by three weeks of the playoffs. We play all the way through Week 20, although the numbers of games and point spreads dwindle after next weekend. The standings are here. Players, you may want to pick accordingly.

If you want the Lions, your pick is due by kickoff time on Saturday, 5:30 p.m. PST. Everybody else, your pick is due at 10:00 a.m. PST Sunday. Good luck!

Hate to say it, but the Saints/Cowboys game isn't even worth calling. Just give it to the Saints now, because they're going to beat Dallas like a redheaded stepchild. (I'm not just saying this because a lot of friends in New Orleans have grins so wide over this game that the tops of their heads are falling off. I'm saying this because I'm grinning, too. For the last two years, it just hasn't been Christmas without the spectre of Jerry Jones being kicked in the goolies over and over.)

At this late stage of the contest, I'm by-passing all the 1-pt. 'dogs for Best Bets (SEATTLE, NEW ORLEANS). Also, due to time-crunch over the weekend (Macy's all-night sale last night, for example), these picks carry no explanation:

Best Bets
(Last week: 0-1; Overall 10-10 (.500))

ST. LOUIS (+3) at Tampa Bay

Upset Special
(Last week: 0-1; Overall: 6-9 (.400))

ARIZONA (5.5) vs. Chicago.

MINNESOTA (+9.5) at Houston.

Notable excerpt:

Phil Villapiano, who played linebacker in the game for the Raiders, remains friends with Harris and many other former Steelers.

“Franco and I have talked about that play a million times,” said Villapiano, who attended the ceremony Saturday. “So many of those guys from the Steelers are my friends. I never thought that play would lead to so much talk and a statue. I love it.”
