Dear Mayor Hales
Why are we paying people to post this sort of commercial material on the City of Portland website, week after week?
Want to learn to fix your bike? Check out the adult or youth programs offered at Community Cycling Center or do a quick fix or take a class at City Bikes.Have you always wanted to make your own curtains? Find inspiration at Bolt Fabric Boutique or learn about classes and events happening at multiple locations of Montavilla Sewing Centers.
Need shoes repaired before your next adventure? Mountain Soles offers sewing and footwear repairs for outdoor adventures while Derek’s Shoe Repair and Accessories offers shoe care tips and a full line of repair services.
Interested in technology and gaining skills? Free Geek offers classes a variety of classes, including learning the basics of computer programming, using free programs to create digital artwork, using technology to increase your chances of finding employment and internet publishing.
Just need a quick computer fix? There are two Portlandlocations of Happy Hamster Computer Repair if you need assistance with your Mac or PC, desktop or laptop.
Is it going to take another lawsuit to put a stop to these shenanigans?

What would be the legal cause of action to stop this sort of publishing?

"But if we eliminate THIS employee, we will no longer be able to fill potholes, we will have to cut 911 police response time, we'll have to close two fire stations and children will starve in the school cafeteria waiting for their breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack."

Perhaps a strong message to LaVonne Griffin-Valade?

I'm sure everyone here is familiar with this document, but if not:

PDXLifer,
Thank you for posting this.
Saw so many failures of adherence that one wonders if the document has any meaning.
Dan Meek,
Any legal avenue with teeth to take on those who have abused the ethics code document listed link above?

Is this advertising where the business pays a fee which in turn provides a revenue stream for the City? If not, the City is once again unfairly deciding on business winners and losers for which Sammyboy has a reputation of doing.

And what in the Code of Ethics would prohibit what Jack is complaining about?

Dan Meek, I think 1.03.03,1. "City officials void financial conflict of interest", and 2. "City officials avoid bias or favoritism" prohibits what Jack is complaining about. "2." really points out what Jack posted is "favoritism".
And if you read the rest of the Code of Ethics you find other parts that supports how the City's postings like this are violations. Amanda had better step up and demand, through her still Equity Bureau assignment, enforcement.

Tell you guys what. Open a business in the City of Portland. Pay taxes. Vote. Then watch as the city advertises your competitor, but not you. Your competitor gets lots of attention, maybe even a visit by the Mayor (of course covered by the Media). Meanwhile you're struggling. You can't afford advertising. You ask the Mayor or a Councilor; but your questions fall on deaf ears.
Then you tell me, what's so right about this.
