Car haters zoom in on Foster Road
You know that no neighborhood is immune from Portland City Hall "road diet" mania when there's talk of Blumenauering Foster Road. Not only are bike lanes galore in the offing, but the dwindling car lanes are going to be "streetcar ready." The pretty pictures are here.

Oh geez. You want to make that stretch safe for bikes? Increase the number of DUI patrols. I say that as a Powellhurst resident and frequent Foster commuter. Sheesh.
We've already got zero bike traffic along the Holgate bike path. Now they want to destroy this too. Nice.

I love the discussion they're having on that page essentially congratulating each other and fawning over the destruction of another thoroughfare in the heart of SE.
I live near and use Foster quite often. I'd hate to see what will happen to traffic when this nonsense goes in place.
Given the number of bikes with trailers I see going up and down Springwater trail and around the MAX station, I don't know that Foster is a worthwhile project for bike traffic.
Next will be discussions about Powell Blvd.

Bike lanes are less about catering to a minuscule or nonexistant cycling population as they are one more arrow in the quiver to try to restrict personal vehicle mobility. Why else keep clogging up the busiest thoroughfares with them where even most cyclists don't want them?

I'm sure that Mayor Hales will put a stop to this.

Was there an option to leave it alone? Or did I miss that one?
Ironic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Foster

Thanks Gil for saying it for me. I started wading through the plan and never saw the "don't do any thing option." I'm sure it hidden in the visioning as "not fixing the multimodal future"

When the McLoughlin Area Plan was rolled out in the second public work session they showed those same kinds of pic for McLoughlin for interaction voting with push button devices.
The planners, county commissioners and Metro councilors were humiliated when the instant results flashed showing overwhelming majority said leave McLoughlin alone.
When the presenting planner Fregonese said surprisingly,"oh!" the crowd laughed at his reaction.
The planning assault on boulevards is despicable.

The city, via neighborhood pushers for all causes city supported, are are quietly carrying out the public process to reduce Division from 60th to 82nd to one driving lane ea way. This will heavily impact the adjacent neighborhoods. When there are no arterials left to efficiently get to city, our neighborhoods suffer w traffic congestion And cut thru traffic. Adds danger for peds and bikes, too.
