Bay Area baseball salvages split
The Giants have done the improbable -- won three straight playoff games on the road and made it to the National League finals. Oakland won a couple of games at home, but succumbed this evening to Justin Verlander, who pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout for the Tigers.

Looks like it will be 18+ years until the Reds win a playoff game within sight of the Ohio River. What a historical choke.
Clearly they need to win enough regular season games to get into the playoffs, but not enough to get home field advantage. That way, they can win the three games played somewhere not named "Great American Ballpark."
