The attempt to disarm the public has been ongoing for decades.
First you take extreme examples, like this guy, and then apply it to all citizens.
First they came for the nut case in a trailer, then they came for...

This one really seems to be shaking the gun nuts out of the tree. The KATU commenters are even better, suspecting the kids of being "up to something". Really, folks? It's OK to point a gun and sic your dog at three lost little kids trying to find a way home? Let's put your kids out there and see how it feels.

This is not a big deal. The police should not have been involved. Show up to the guy's house with a group of men and have a chat on the guy's porch. Problem solved.
The kids learned a valuable lesson about how seriously some people take their property rights.

I'm surprised there is a gun control issue here? No one was shot, or even close to being shot. Scaring kids off your lawn with fire arms is as American as apple pie and vagina fear.
When I was a kid I used to get shot at by farmers when I cut through their fields. It was just bird shot and they fired way over my head. Scary though. I told my father. His response?
"Quit cutting through other people's fields if you don't want to get shot at."
They are probably going to take the old guy's pistol away. What's he supposed to scare the kids away with next time? A broom! :-)
[If you can't tell I find this whole thing hilarious, the overreaction even more so...they really called the cops? HA!]
