I've got to say I love the open aspect, at least in the FA Cup in England. It's great knowing an amateur village team could theoretically play one of the powerhouses like Chelsea or Liverpool. You could have a tavern team playing Manchester United, if they can pull it off.
Of course, it never happens because over there the professional teams don't suck.
Not to make light of the tragic drunk driving incident but I feel a possible defense opening up here: "Of course I was drinking. Have you seen the team this year?"
I also sense its time to rethink the "No Pity" slogan. How about, "No Pity but Plenty of Pitiful."

Don't worry Timber fans: Goldman Sachs has a special new derivative for the Paulsons that will disguise these Timber losses so they won't appear 'til later.

Perfect time to do it too, with the international break.

So any team can join the tourney? I really like that. Very pure.
It should be noted that the Timbers lost to a team with a bunch of old pro players. Still kinda silly, but it wasn't like me and Jack were out there kicking bricks at the net.

Hopefully, all the players still got their orange slices and juice boxes after the game.

It's not that far off. You could go to the Nike campus and watch teams comprised of Nike employees who are better than CalFC.

Here's a little more about Cal FC from the Timbers own website:
"The team played all of five games together in La Gran Liga De Oxnard, winning two and losing three, before entering the seven-team USASA Region IV tournament that qualified it for the Open Cup."
La Gran Liga De Oxnard?
Priceless.

The low point was when the Timbers' radio announcer commented about the Cal guys falling left and right and sluggishly getting up as the game wound down: "You have to remember that Cal FC doesn't train regularly."

Timbers need to pull something together quick. Next season will be an important one to either regain credibility, or lose it for a decade.
They had 37 shots on goal... zero points. That is just plain bad.

I'm no soccer basher, but: on the radio?

I didn't watch this particular effort but I think the Timbers site carried the video with the radio used as audio. Maybe that's what Roger was watching. I went to the site to find out how much we won by and I noted they announced the score but we're in no hurry to recap the match.

Makes baseball look absolutely high-scoring!

The Timbers and their fans are starting to sound a lot like the Jailblazers, "Just wait until next year."
