Meanwhile, in pro basketball...

Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder have swept the defending world champion Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the NBA playoffs. They'll play either the Lakers or the Nuggets -- most likely the Lakers -- in the next round. This season will always have an asterisk attached to it in the record books, but it won't be surprising if those books also show the Thunder winning it all.

I agree. And it really should be Seattle's championship to celebrate.

Such an outcome would certainly please Perk, a warrior, who suffered a painful conclusion last evening:

"Oklahoma City finished off the Mavs without starting center Kendrick Perkins, who left the game with 4:09 left in the first quarter with a right hip strain. He had two rebounds, two assists and missed his only shot in his 8 minutes."

Let us hope the injury problems that prompted DannyA to make the unpopular trade last year are not resurfacing.

Meanwhile, the revivified Celts have the opportunity to make it 3-1 against the injury-plagued Hawks this evening at the Garden. Boston fans are holding their collective breath in fear of a devastating injury of their own.

"show the Thunder winning it all"

Sorry, still think the Thunder need a go-to post player for scoring. Durant throwing up 3-pointers with 0.1 sec left isn't going to happen all the time.

The Lakers (Bynum) / Spurs (Duncan) are going to be a tough mathcup.

The Lakers (Bynum) / Spurs (Duncan) are going to be a tough mathcup.

The Lakers' bench is weak, and the Spurs are old.

...for the injuries associated with its abbreviation, inadequate conditioning, and sudden, Christmas commencement.

The formerly fearsome Bulls will not survive their first round now that Noah has joined Rose on the injured list. And the much-maligned but doggedly game Knicks, who finally defeated the Heat today, haven't a chance:

"Streamers fell from the ceiling as the players walked off the court, with the Knicks now needing a solution at point guard after Davis was carted off on a stretcher with his severe knee injury.

Jeremy Lin is close to returning from knee surgery, but Iman Shumpert was lost with a torn knee ligament in Game 1."
