Speaking of quakes
They had a 2.5 over near Maupin a couple of hours ago. It's a common place for earthquake activity, but it's been quiet for a while. Wonder if it had anything to do with these yesterday. The geologists always say no, but just because they don't know there's a connection doesn't mean there isn't one.

Meanwhile, speaking of earthquakes, on the other side of the PacRim, off Vanuatu, a 6.3 or 6.5:
"'The Hong Kong Observatory gave the quake a magnitude of 6.5 while Geoscience Australia registered it as 6.3. It had a depth of four kilometres.'"

But,
"'This was an aftershock to be precise,' [seismologist Eddie Leask] said.
'A couple of days ago at about half past midnight on the third of February our time, there was a magnitude 7.3 near Vanuatu in roughly the same region, and since then there's been, we've measured eleven earthquakes over magnitude five in the region, including six over magnitude six.'"

Quakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis would appear to make life on the islands far less certain than here in temperate OR.
