Sam Rand Twins' final year may be ugliest of all

The soon-to-be-departed duo that has been leading Portland city government into one hole after another for the last decade or more, is now reportedly cranking up the heat on the charter review commission. The Twins and their moneyed puppeteers can't stand the thought that the voters of the city might get a direct say in some of the issues of the day. And so they'll fight tooth-and-nail to kill any reform efforts:

Council members are refusing to replace departing commissioners, allowing their numbers to shrink near the 15 required to do business. The council has also said it will not give the commission any more money, preventing it from adequately publicizing and holding forums on such complex and controversial issues as an Independent Utility Commission and Ranked Choice Voting.

Three hundred and forty days to go... and then let's hope this is the low point.

Here's where some do-gooder steps in and offers free meeting space and offers to publish the notices.

It's like the last days of the Boss Tweed Ring, isn't it?

How long would 2 recalls with grown-ups running them take to remove the rubbish from office?

It might take a few months off of that 340 days, but at the rate they are going....any help would do. I was told that at the last recall, some people were reluctant to sign because they did not want Leonard for Mayor.
One thing it would do, is leave both of them with a "negative" mark on their political career, do not think Adams would like that if he intends to find another job outside of this area. Leonard's ego may be bruised...

I heard that people were intimidated and did not want to sign public petitions because of the certain anger and retribution from Sam. His bullying and punishing/demeaning behavior did and can ruin careers as long as he retains power. many people have been burned by Sam and lots of people had lots to lose. Great way to lead. Despots have few leadership skills and resort to jr. High tactics. Bad things happen to good people and LO is no different in substance, just style.

Cockroaches never like Sunlight...

Nolo,
I heard that too. It was difficult to find locations to sign that petition as businesses were concerned about retaliation, and some people would not sign for fear of retaliation as well.
What does this say about the community we live in? This type of abuse and treatment towards the people is outrageous.
Our country/region/city is in a downward spiral.
