Blazer Dancers to perform at Occupy Portland cleanout

The Blazer Dancers announced this morning that they will perform tomorrow night at the police roundup of Occupy campers from Lownsdale and Chapman Squares in downtown Portland.

A spokesperson for the Trail Blazers said the 16-member dance and cheerleading squad will line the demonstration site on the Third and Fourth Avenue sides beginning at the city's announced eviction deadline of 12:01 a.m. Sunday, and run into the parks to showcase their routines during lulls in the arrests.

The dancers will be making their first public appearance of the season, having been sidelined by the league-wide labor dispute that includes the Blazers players and the team. The appearance is part of the Trail Blazers community service program, and it will be sponsored in part by the league's NBA Cares initiative.

"We're dying to get started in a new season," said Ashley, one of the dancers. "With all the sitting around we have been doing, some of the girls are afraid they're getting a little rusty."

Team members have been rehearsing various routines at a hotel in Tigard in preparation for Saturday night's appearance. Insiders report that one of the numbers is a tribute to fallen rap star Heavy D. "They want to do the Heavy stuff before everybody forgets who he was," a source said.

The Blazers' co-ed acrobatic stunt team is barred by league rules from performing during the lockout.

Is it OK to duct tape the sidewalk to reserve a spot to watch the mayhem.

I really think it may be better than going to the zoo. With so many aminals, minerals and vegetables involved it has to be.

I've been trying to occupy a Blazer Dancer for years...

That is brilliant.

The circus has truly come to town. Get your popcorn ready.

Will the T-shirt Cannon be there too?

Was your source for this story "The Onion?"

I need a new keyboard...

Won't all that perfume stink up the place?
:)

Push em back, push em back... waaaaay BACK!

Will Sam show up in his saddle shoes and sweater with megaphone? Lots of cop jocks he can sniff...

The perfume is part of the performance, so the police won't have to wear their gas masks till later on when they start the arrests and have to be very close to the OWS folks.
Will the girls be riding the Cavalia horses nude too? Oh, wait...that is for the summer eviction, it is too chilly now.

Will Paul Allen do a walk on?

That made my morning.

Seriously, a cheer team would make it so Portlandia "bird on it!" Think of the media coverage? I would guarantee nation front page reports!

How about the gay men's chorus?

And Imago! ....so many appendages to handcuff! Or none at all!

Will the Rose Featival Princeses be there too?

Great satire.

Will Storm Large sing the National Anthem?

An alert reader points out that the Dancers actually were working at this worthy event yesterday.

Will they be sharing 50 percent of the tear gas? Or will it be 52 percent?

Ah the irony! Blazer dancers representing one of the "one percent" wealthiest in America (Paul Allen) giving a dance cheer send off to the Occupy Portland folks at the park. How insulting can you get? Maybe they will hand out gift bags.

Ah the irony!
The 1% wealthiest Blazer former players and others dishing up canned green beans to the less fortunate, and not even on the actual day of Thanksgiving so as to not interfere with the 1% 's celebration.
The disconnect boggles the mind.

How nice of the Blazers to treat people for fleas and ticks at the Harvest Dinner. That is a service that would also be very much appreciated at the Occupy camp.

...and add a huge Greek Chorus in the background -- with pikers (City Hall has no shortage of pikers) -- singing Oh Fortuna from Orff's Carmina Burana! Hell, for that and the Blazer Dancers I'll show up with a broom and shovel and help clean up the mess.

Hmmm...Or some Wagner. With Randy as Brunnhilde. And a bird perched on the tip of his sword.

Flight of the Valkeries

WTF, Which To Follow?

Still time to open a delousing station for the Blazer Dancers once they're done.

I think the Blazer Dancers will need a "sheep dip" trough after their Animal Farm experience.
