Make up your own joke

Portland's reality-challenged mayor is in Asia again, "promoting and growing" Portland businesses. Oh, good. His junkets to the Far East are always so productive. $10,000 of the tab for the trip will be picked up by Portland taxpayers.

Look at the bright side: the same side we Texans view concerning Rick Perry. The longer he's out of town, the less damage he can do at home. And as with Perry, maybe he'll find some bright shiny object that'll keep his attention long enough that he forgets to come back.

I would love to see some sort of accounting of what the city claims these trips have produced over the last 4 years. It would be amusing to see the PR flacks even attempt to spin it.

It's amazing that the mayor of a mid-sized city seems to operate with a complete lack of accountability to anyone. Heck, if I could take exotic $10,000 vacations four times a year on the public dime without anyone blinking, I guess I would too.

"In Hong Kong, they'll be joined by Colin Sears from [the Portland Development Commission], a consortium of eight clean tech companies, and representatives from the Port of Portland as they promote Portland's new clean tech export initiative..

is that eight profitable clean tech companies, or eight tax-subsidized companies?

Hong Kong is fairly close to Shanghai - can we leave him there?

I guess the song "Values Here" has a different ring for former Dag Nasty drummer Colin Sears.

Har Har!
