They've indicted a Catholic bishop in Missouri on a charge of failing to report child sex abuse by a priest.

It's too bad they can't charge him with a felony. Apparently Bishop Finn is a big fan of Opus Dei, a hardcore right-wing proponent of old school pre-Vatican II Catholicism. One of his first acts after taking control of the diocese was to slashed the budget for social justice outreach and lay ministry. My take on this is that he was so focused on retaining priests, and rolling back the involvement of lay ministers, that he was trying to do some sort of internal rehab with this obvious pedophile. His dogmatic obsession with outdated religious views caused him to make a deal with the devil regardless of the cost to the members of his flock. There are some really super ticked off Catholics in Kansas City, Mo. right now. It's really sick and wrong how this man betrayed their trust if you ask me.
