Don't fight stupidity with more stupidity
Whatever one thinks of Portland's overheated (and overpriced) bicycle agenda, and however frustrated one becomes with the more obnoxious cyclists that one encounters on the city's thoroughfares, it's criminal assault to go throwing tacks out on the streets that bikers frequent. We hope whoever's doing this either stops or gets stopped before they kill somebody. The cyclists have every right to be royally p.o.'d at such a deranged person.

There were tacks on Route 30 during the STP race too.
However nasty some of the bicyclists are, this is not an appropriate action to try to disable bikes.

Weird didn't work.
Stupid isn't working.
And "Portlandia" finishes filming, and re-ups for another season.

I can't agree more, Jack. All this does is steel the resolve of the Critical Mass dweebs when they start screaming about "taking back the streets". The best response is to be courteous and civil at all times, and in fact shine in your presence and presentation. It then drives them even crazier when they hear, repeatedly, the one word they've never heard in their lives: "No."

It would not surprise me one little bit that one of the militant bi cycle buoys did the deed. Just like the fake victims of lets say racism that get caught pissing on their own cause to further it. But that would be placing blame before the facts are proven or perpetrates caught.

Flat Jack may be right - which derails my original train of thought steamrolling towards Newton's third.

Today's Sunday NY Times has a great article on the backlash in Copenhagen and other European cities to the bike nazis. And from a fellow long term bike rider like myself.
Maybe Sam will take another trip to Europe before his demise and then do something about bike nazis before he leaves office. Fat chance.

The "nasty bicyclist" theme must be unique to the City of Portland, because out here in the suburbs where the bicyclists are much fewer the main "nasties" are the automobile drivers.

It is true many bicyclists are inconsiderate, angry and just poor neighbors on the streets. But, ahhh, this description also fits a whole heck of lot of car/truck/RV drivers. There are differences to be sure. Drivers of vehicles using fuel from petroterrorist states and Texas billionaires kill bicyclists. It does not happen the other way around. Say what needs to be said about bicyclists. But, when a citizen takes on the responsibility of driving tons of mass at street speeds (or higher), said citizen has, by the law of physics, taken on a greater risk factor/ responsibility than the person traveling at human power speed with one thirtieth the mass.
