While not a safety tip, I would like to add that I found my leaf blower was most effective before my neighbor got one, too.

I don't know how people managed getting old before there was AARP. As little as I'm into it, the best all-around advice I've heard so far is, "getting old is not for sissies" - George Burns, maybe, said it.
As for raking leaves, Jack, my latest method is to wait until they fall off the tree. I about broke my neck a few times climbing around in the tree to rake the leaves down. (-:
