Premature allelopathy
It's a week before Labor Day, and already the foliage on some of the trees here in Portland is turning. It's been a cool summer, for sure -- nice and easy on the A.C. bills -- but it's too bad the leaves are turning red before the tomatoes.

What does allelopathy have to do with formation of the abscission layer in leaf petioles, which results in decrease in chlorophyll production, thus the appearance of colors other than green in the fall?

It's perhaps a tomato problem, not the leaves.
I have been photographing these parts for 35+ years and to my eye, the fresh green look is hanging around quite a bit longer than usual. On average, the first sign of color change shows in the vine maples, and in the Western Gorge, I've seen it in July.
So far as allelopathy, maybe the tomato is affecting the other plants, or is it visa versa?
