TurboTax ate my Schedule SE

Remember when Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner testified about how he had screwed up his tax returns? Here's how it should have gone:

Meanwhile, Geithner's IRS throws the book at the little people with the same excuse. [Via TaxProf Blog.]

"BUT SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS"

This still sticks in my craw -- whenever I hear Geithner speak I think those are the words of a liar and manipulator.

It is not just that he failed to pay the self-employment tax. Geithner's employer grossed up his income to cover the tax, an amount which Geithner pocketed instead of remitting to the IRS. The income was accepted under false pretenses, a mere step or two away from embezzlement.

When I compare what we do in our family, where we religiously maintain records and report the net income of the little side business we run (muchly on a cash basis), it is hard to respect the man.
