Salem made out better than it let on
Oregon tax revenues increased in 2009 -- one of only five states to show increases last year -- according to this new report. The 1.9% boost was the third largest in the nation. Individual income taxes increased 9%, while corporate income taxes fell 59%. All of this, of course, was before Measures 66 and 67. (Via TaxProf Blog.)

Must have been that extra money from the amnesty last fall.

Jack, I couldn't find the info that this was pre-66/67. Where did you see it?

The study talks about "collections" in 2009. I am assuming that the Measure 66 and 67 tax increases weren't "collected" until 2010, although passed in '09.

Stupid question; but does the 2009 fiscal year run from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009 or is it 2009-10?

Well Cali is down 15%, so much for the B-O and OCPP theory that we need one of each type of tax during a downturn. Of course, I'ms sure this story will never hit either of their WEBsites.

Steve, and I'm also sure Kitzhaber and Bradberry will keep on calling for the three legged tax stool. Most studies prove that sale taxes have little affect in evening a state's tax income. Look at Washington too. They have a massive debt problem, even with their sales tax.

It's about time (5 yrs) for the sales tax to come up again. Will this be the 9th or 10th time? It will probably not get more than 40% as usual. Too many people remember that CA's sales tax started at 2%.
Too bad we can"t get rid of the back-door sales tax in meas 66 & 67

There is no panacea for taxes. A sales tax is more preferable than an income tax, to me at least.
Personally, a combination of all taxes is preferable if they are at low, fair and acceptable rates.
But can we trust anyone to keep them from inflating too much?
