In between Margaritas
Fireman Randy took a break from his honeymoon with No. 3 yesterday to issue this important statement:
Mayor Adams' decision to bring the Portland Police Bureau under his authority and appoint Mike Reese as Portland's Police Chief is the right decision at the right time for Portland. The Mayor's recognition of the need for course correction and his courage in making a swift decision to do so is a testament to his skill as the leader of our City.Translation: "He did what I told him, which means he knows what's good for him."

Well, that evens out the math. With the wives, I mean. So now that will be one pension for each wife. Congrats, Randy.

These two are chained together now, for better or worse. I predict the next two years are going to be like watching a slow-motion train wreck.

...I just threw up a little in my mouth...

The Mayor's recognition of the need for course correction and his courage in making a swift decision to do so
Only somebody heavily invested in believing in Adams could stomach the cognitive dissonance of Leonard's claim of "swift decision". As Steve Duin pointed out, Adams has had *497 days* to make a "course correction" to deal with long-standing problems.
And I'm confused--isn't the new police chief the guy who assigned the cop with the courage to speak up about bureau problems to storeroom detail?
Good times. Good times.

Imperator Sam and his council of masturbating sock monkeys.

Delusional!

The unsettling part about this is that now Nick Fish is the power broker on the Council, assuming controversial things break down into Sam/Randy vs. Amanda/Dan, with Nick left to shop for the best deal and vote accordingly.

I'd rather have Fish in that position than Dan.
If Mary Volm makes a runoff, I will gladly vote for her again. But if she is not an option, I may be seriously tempted to vote for Saltzman if he truly intends to be a thorn in Adams' side.
You hear that Dan? You have six months to wow me with your ability to piss off Sam Adams.

Don't worry, readers--Saltzman will be back to his usual get-along-stay-employed demeanor in a few days. Sometime within the week, you'll hear him say something along the lines of how he has to "work with Adams" to solve the "problems of the city", and how he/we need to "put this all behind us".
Guaranteed.

What bureaus are left in Dan's portfolio? The street sweepers?
Posted by Snards | May 13, 2010 12:03 PM
This was a real slap in the face to Saltzman, especially in an election year. But now it means he can get back to what he loves, reading engineering specs for the Big Pipe and raising money for kids. He'll act all huffy and puffy for a few days, but then put his head back down.

Saltzman is now persona non grata as far as Creepy's office is concerned. He can't even get a phone call returned. And you can bet whenever Creepy decides to shuffle other portfolios, Danny will have to find out via press conference. You'll find him huddling with Amanda and Nick. Show us you can be a Maverick, Saltzman!

Dan Saltzman just called Sam Adams vindictive!!! In what passes for the major press in Portland!!!! Oh Dan, now you have my ear, you sneaky unpredictable thing, you. Who would have thought that you had a conscience about the fact that we have a demagogue predator for mayor. Who would have thought it??!!!
Saltzman just threw down a serious gauntlet. But I think I am not stupid enough to fall for it and vote for him, although I am tempted.
I will be more tempted if Saltzman files a recall campaign against Adams in the next few days. Or at least gives some major interviews.
I've always had a very tiny, very lurking, good feeling about Saltzman. Funny. I've always attributed it to major delusional optimistic wishful thinking, on my part.

Actually on second thoughts, i know exactly where the sneaking good feeling comes from. Because compared to Sam and Randy, Saltzman looks like a knight in white satin.

I commented on OPB this morning that I thought the timing of replacing Saltzman and the police boss was a political move to get Saltzman re-elected.
They strongly disagreed because ole Dan was pissed. Maybe. But hey- now he can get the sympathy vote.

This is Saltzman's pattern. He makes a few "tough" statements and then backs down and changes his tune when things get tough. Sort of like a hot dog complaining about the packing house. Even if it has some good points, it has no backbone and no hope of follow-through.

Why is Randy saying something is good usually mean the exact opposite?
I guess he got his revenge on Sizer.

Dumb and Dumber, now showing at SW 4th & Madison.

Shades of San Francisco, 1978. Do ya think Dan Saltzman could go "Dan White" on Sam and Randy?....ala the other Dan on George Moscone and Harvey Milk?
The scene seems to be setting up, doesn't it? Lights....camera......Pass the twinkies.
Just sayin'....

Watching that video of Adams with the Oregonian, he's the one who looks ready to go "Dan White."

If I remember right Chief Reese is hell-on-wheels, when it comes to whistle blowers.
Remember Officer Brennan? He tried to let the PPB, know about two problem officers. His reward? Cleaning cobwebs in the property evidence warehouse.

Just a thought Jack

"I guess he got his revenge on Sizer" [Leonard]. I think Sizer will get her revenge when she files her "wrongful termination lawsuit".
I'll be blaming Leonard and Adams for our taxpayer bill of $1.7 Million, plus the $795,000 legal bill. Leonard will insist that the City (us) needs to defend itself from lawsuits of this nature, and go all the way. He'll forget his past philosophy of not legally defending the city in paying out all the disability claims in the Fire Bureau.

Good thought lw. If only somebody in the press would really dig into Randy's dealings with the fire disability system. His weird involvement in the chef/firefighter debacle sure disappeared from the press quickly. Makes you wonder how things ran when Randy used to be on the disability board.

rt howard, It appears Reese will be hell on wheels for a lot of folks. News this morning is that he is planning on firing a lot of managers appointed by Rosie. I guess he wants his own in place to cover his mistakes (and I predict they are coming).

Speaking of the police, did it take three days to release any details on the fatal shooting because Humphreys was involved? they had to brief everyone on the cover story and alter all records to show him somewhere else at the time? just askin'...
