Saddest thing is that the populace rolls over for this behavior for the most part. We have a protest march against police and not much changes and we have 2 recalls agains Sammy and not much changes.
Since this is what Portland wants, I'm just savin' to leave Portland now.
Steve, right on with getting the heck outta here. A new unemployment rate for Metro was just released today and it's up from 10.6 to 10.7 higher than the national average of 9.7. Home foreclosures for the month of March is 625 and we get a soccer stadium, Bike lanes, Sunday parking fees, streetcar tracks, and more user fees, and a corrupt, city government, and no one really cares, yippee.
At least Spokane could get a Federal indictment against some of the officers involved. We seem to be completely incapable of any kind of effective discipline, oversight, or justice when it comes to police brutality....oh maybe a couple of days or weeks on desk duty or paid leave....and let the city write a check for millions....and the same officers keep on thuggin....
Some good reads as onn drills down into the Spokane newspaper's coverage.
Which, IMHO, is a lot more critical of the SPD than the Oregonian's is of the PPB.
One other interesting wierd paralle -- a break in. But it was a purported 911 call from the office of the attorneys representing the dead guy in the lawsuit against the city. Spokane cops claimed there was a 911 call from the lawyers offices, which was "hung up", which allowed the cops to break into the lawyers offices on a weekend to see if any one inside needed help.
Down here, its the PPA offices which get broken into.
