I have to agree with the article... I had an internship with the company in Eugene that was supposed to supplement my education as a network administrator for my Associates degree and I spent more time helping them move from one site to another and building furniture than I did working on anything computer related.
The only "really" thing that I got out of the internship however is I did get paid.
I was really disappointed because I was hoping to supplement the substandard education from Lane community college's CIT program in order to find a career in that field. Didn't happen. Three years and $23,000 to wind up driving a truck.
Speaking of abuse of minors, interesting point made here:
The pope's status as a head of state should no more protect him from prosecution in the US than Manuel Noriega's status as a head of state protected him.
If cracking down on unpaid and abusive internships ever became popular, say goodbye to the publishing industry. Most weekly newspapers and monthly magazines, much less small book publishers, wouldn't last a week without an ever-rotating crowd of interns willing to put up with months or even years of physical abuse and sexual harassment for the vague promise of being hired "one of these days".

No, I'm not bitter... I'm pissed!
