Yeah- and read the end of Adams' issued statement - he essentially passes the buck to Saltzman for any future DECISIONS surrounding Campbell's death & the PPB's conduct/culture. Another pathetic CYA move by our mayor.
Sam definitely tries to pass the buck to Saltzman, but any idiot knows that the ultimate decisions about the police are made by the Mayor. The Mayor appoints the "Police Commissioner" and can reappoint him or her at any time for any reason.
Sam Adams is responsible for this police shooting and should be held accountable.
Aaron Campbell didn't need to die. It's true. If he had acted like a mature adult, he would have grieved like any normal mature adult. He would never have been in this situation. He created the environment which lead to his death. The cops are not at fault here.
Does the city attorney ever advise Mayor creepy before he talks? I think Campbell family can ask for anything they want and they will get it because of what the Mayor said today. I am not an attorney, but I would like know what attorneys on this blog say about the Mayors statement.
The cops' own radio recordings guarantee the Campbell family will walk out of this several million dollars richer.
PPB can claim "he wasn't compliant" to the media all they want, but when the last thing an officer says over the radio is "he's coming out backwards, subject is compliant," someone's going to have to explain why a cop opened with beanbags 3 seconds later. Good luck getting a civil jury to buy any explanation there.
Mice C above blames Aaron Campbell for creating the environment that led to his death. This is the only statement not coming from the PPB that has supported their action. The shooter claims that Campbell was acting in a threatening manner as he reached back to touch his back where one of numerous beach bags struck him. Cambell was walking away from the beanbags when he was shot in the back because Officer Frashaour felt "threatened" Who was the mature adult here?

That Sam's a sharp one - so dignified.
Did he tweet the proceedings of the visit or invite them to take a streetcar to the funeral and then a Timbers game?
