Back nearly twenty years ago, I was working as a contract laborer for GTE, and had regular dealings with a full-timer we'll call "Glenn". Glenn worked at GTE because he had to pay the bills, but his dream was to become a police officer. His real dream was to become a member of the Dallas Police Department, but the DPD required all of its members to be college graduates, and Glenn was so stupid that he tripped on the carpet pattern when getting up in the morning. He tried every suburb in the area, but even the folks who hired the sociopaths among the police departments in Carrollton and Lewisville wouldn't take him because of his longstanding issues with poor impulse control. (Even The Colony, a prefab subdivision north of Dallas, wouldn't take him, and I still have memories of the Colony cop who threatened to shoot a snake out of my hands as I was trying to move it out of the street.)
I lost touch with Glenn when the contract ended, but I still remember his regular threats to all of us on how we'd best not run into him once he became an actual badge-wearing officer. The way he told it, he had that classic combination of a long memory and a microscopic penis, and he was determined to take out his frustrations on anybody and everybody he could find once he had a badge, a gun, and a baton. And if he didn't have a reason, he'd make up something, which was something else he told anybody within bragging distance.
Well, I'm glad that Glenn finally got his dream job, even if he had to move to Louisiana to get it.
