What *is* it with these NBA refs?

There's always a lot of fan discontent with the referees in the pro basketball playoffs -- but there seems to be a lot more this year than usual. It's not clear whether this announcement by the NBA commissioner is going to cool the rage any.

I don't put a lot of stock into the rantings of twentysomething slackers at the blazers edge site....

I do believe that NBA referees decide games. They do it mainly in 2 ways:

1. The timing of when players get their 2nd foul call during the first half. Players picking up 2 quick foul calls will have them put on the bench causing the opposing team to have an easier time scoring and/or defending since that player is not on the floor.

2. NBA All-stars like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and a couple others getting foul shots every time they drive in the lane or put up a shot and a defender raises their arms to defend.

3. The bullshit rule where "drawing contact" is an automatic 2 free throws, even though the player with the ball deliberately drew the contact to shoot free throws.

3. Not rigidly enforcing the 3 second rule when teams play zone defense and pack 3 or 4 defenders in the paint.

That is my conspiracy theory generated from my experience in watching the NBA playoffs on television.

oh bejesus, corrections:

1. mainly in "4" ways.

2. "4" not 3.

I apologize for my sloppy writing.

Wait wait...

You're on a PDX-centric blog, complaining about "twentysomething slackers" on a DIFFERENT PDX-centric blog?

Pot, meet kettle!

But in all seriousness, I am a late-thirtysomething slacker. Try and not be so ageist.

Please tell me that this is a sick joke, gone awry.
