Unsustainable

Even my good friend and sports enthusiast Dwight Jaynes suggests that the City of Portland should kill the Merritt Paulson soccer stadium scam, and fast. Because "major league" soccer is becoming a major league financial disaster.

But if we don't build it, we'll never have a public eyesore to name after Scoutmaster Sam!

The question I have never seen answered well is what is the cost of the stadiums. The Mercury has been touting that Paulson has either paid off the old PGE Park renovation, or that he is paying it off now. Yet it appears that the reality is that Paulson just pays rent that hopefully covers maintenance on the facility. Is this correct, and how much will he be paying under the new stadium agreement, and how much will taxpayers be paying each year in return for 15 soccer games per year? Are we being asked to fund soccer to the tune of half a million dollars per game?

Paulson has either paid off the old PGE Park renovation, or that he is paying it off now.

That is an outrageous lie, as was explained here when it was first uttered.

Agreed, But the damage is done. It's out there and some are repeating it as fact.

Hey, this town is built on lies.
