Republican from Alaska

A bunch of mavericks up there. Heck of a bunch of people.

"Stevens faces up to five years in prison on each count when he is sentenced, but under federal guidelines he is likely to receive much less prison time, if any. The judge originally scheduled sentencing for Jan. 26 but then changed his mind and did not immediately set a date"
A guy smokes a joint and gets his car, house confiscated and goes to jail for years...crooked politicians still get their retirement and job...Justice??? NOPE.

Alaska is full of corrupt politicians.

The other longstanding Republican came back from the Senate and became governor, appointing as his replacement his daughter to his old Senate seat, where she still serves.

As I said, the state is full of corrupt politicians, mostly Republican, like the Congressman. The state has a bunch of bad (Republican) politicians, and only one real maverick. Not a bunch of mavericks.

only one real maverick

Yeah, the one who rigs state contracting, bills the state for living in her own house, flies her kids around with her on the taxpayers' dime, and uses her office to stab people in the back over her sister's divorce. That's as real as it gets up there.

I was amazed that the verdict came down just 10 days before the election. When I heard that one juror had to leave for a family funeral and they were contemplating what to do about it (with four alternates seated!), my thoughts went to "where is Karl and what does he have to do with this? Nonetheless, they persevered, brought in the alternate, and finished their task.

Query - he's now a convicted felon. Does he lose his right to vote?
