I was talking to someone last week, bemoaning the awful end of the line for Shea and Yankee Stadiums...with neither the Yankees nor Mets in the playoffs. I said I could care less who won now.
It was suggested to me that I could at least root for the Dodgers since they at one time used to be in NY. I looked at that person in a stony silence.
Finally, the long lost hurt came to the surface: "Do you have any idea how much we --OK, 'we' being my friends and I born circa 1951-- ...DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA (I repeated) how much we hate the Dodgers?"
The Red Sox were a rivalry. The Dodgers were traitors.
I shook my head and walked away. Let's go Tampa, I thought to myself.
