Canine conundrum

I had a great weekend in the pro football Underdog Pool. Acting on smart tips from readers Pat Malach and Kevin, I guessed that Cleveland would continue to cleve, and it did, netting me the big points of the week (7).

And with that, it is on to the ninth week of the big daddies' season. I'm in third place in the standings at this point, but there are plenty of hounds coming up behind me, and so there's no room for any stumbling. Readers, can you help me pick an underdog (in caps) from this bunch that will win its game outright this week?

13 DETROIT at Chicago
8.5 KANSAS CITY vs. Tampa Bay
8.5 DALLAS at NY Giants
7.5 CINCINNATI vs. Jacksonville
6.5 SEATTLE vs. Philadelphia
6 NY JETS at Buffalo
6 NEW ENGLAND at Indianapolis
5.5 GREEN BAY at Tennessee
5 HOUSTON at Minnesota
3.5 MIAMI at Denver
2.5 ST. LOUIS vs. Arizona
2.5 OAKLAND vs. Atlanta
2 BALTIMORE at Cleveland
2 PITTSBURGH at Washington

Seattle at home? New England on the road? Favre in the snow? Any chance of the Cowboys waking up and upsetting Plaxico and his soap opera pals?

New England over Indy.

Yikes. You're getting some bad numbers on KC, Dallas, Cincy, and Seattle. I'd take the Jets.

How is New England the underdog? Am I missing something?

It's in Indy, where outside of the season opener, the Colts have played pretty well. Do you really want to trust Matt Cassel on the road? They'll be down to their third third and fourth string RBs again, and are fresh off giving up 301 passing yards to Marc Bulger. Expect Manning to have a big day on the home turf and the colts to win.

Of course, it could happen. I just think Farve and the Jets are a better play.

NE is the best pick.

Dallas and Cincy have decent shots if you really need the points.

Wow, a lot to choose from this week. First off, forget Miami and any of the others below that. Not enough points.

Personally, I'd stay away from Detroit, KC, Dallas and Seattle this week.

As bad as Cincinnati is, I'd be very tempted to take them. Jacsonville has no pass rush, hasn't been able to run the football, and is about to lose their best receiver to suspension. If Matt Jones is suspended this week, that might be just enough to let Cincinnati eek out their first win. Remmember, Jacksonville came out of a bye week and LOST TO CLEVELAND. Yikes.

New England SHOULD beat Indianapolis. In my mind, that game is the no-brainer of the underdog quest.

Houston looks good to me too.

As for the remaining two games, I don't trust Favre in Buffalo, nor Rodgers in Tennessee.

I'd put my money on the Dolphins. Chad Pennington and Ted Ginn woke up last week, and Denver's defense is atrocious, especially in the secondary. The Broncos' "running-back-by-committee" approach doesn't put the fear of God into anybody.

But if you'd prefer a home dog, the Rams are on a tear (losing to NE only because the refs hosed them), Donnie Avery is due for a huge day, and the Cardinals are...well, let's just say I remain unconvinced. Plus an Arizona loss bodes well for Tuesday, right?
