Have a great weekend

This is not where our recent travels led us, but it's a wonderful song, anyway:

A really great singer. Like B.B. King, he's a shadow of his former self, but it doesn't matter. His musical personality, like B.B.'s, is so compelling that the erosion of his technical ability is almost superfluous. He's always had the ability to project a warmth that most other singers can't even begin to approach.

Beautiful. Now there's an artist.

Despite Pelosi, Willie Brown and Gavin Newsom, this is the greatest city in the world! I am a native Oregonian, but every time I hear this tune it reminds me of all the times I spent in "The City," and I choke.

What I like about this version is that he sings the intro, dismissing three great cities of the world by comparison, as well as the famous main verses. Often in concert Tony skips right to "I left my heart..." Can't blame him for wanting to get the song over with -- it must get old show after show -- but the whole song is best.

I haven't heard Tony Bennett sing live in a couple of years, but when last I did, his technical ability had stood up remarkably well.

The weekly song reminds of birthday plans to stay at the "Red Vic" on Haight followed by a day with Frieda Kahlo at MOMA, SF. A quick drop by Lou's Blues on the Wharf will complete the journey. A weekend by the bay. Unfortunately Tony's in Vegas. Thanks for the reminder.

huh.. but can you sing along using the subtitles?

I've seen him several times on TV over the past five years and he's not nearly up to the standard displayed on this clip. That's not a criticism. As I said (or implied), his "essence" is what really moves people.
