Power lunch
My eyes have been known to deceive me, but I do believe that was the Speaker of the Oregon House and a guy in a suit looking for a booth in the bar at Higgins at lunchtime today. Alas, they were too late and had to settle for the dining room.
I hope the suit guy picked up the check, and then wrote another big check.

Whoa! Higgins for lunch . . . among the elite movers and shakers. Tell me you were just passing by.

Their burger is just awesome. And they don't even call it a burger - its a sirloin something or other...

MYSTERY SOLVED: I was the guy in the suit. I wanted to talk with Speaker Merkley about his campaign (I'm an editorial writer at The O across the street from Higgins) so we did it over lunch. I had the potato/vegetable soup -- good but overpriced. The speaker and his campaign aide, Matt Canter, had quiche, but they're real men. You should have dropped by our table and said hello.

P.S.: I wrote no checks but did buy my own lunch.
