The Beavers game last night had an oddity, although not as rare at the Dodgers'. The Colo. Springs pitcher bungled three (!) pick-off throws to first. Two went by the first-baseman, the other actually hit the base runner. My son and I have been scoring games for decades, but we drew a blank on how to score the latter. HBP? Nah. BTW, at game time it was a cool 100 degrees and it plummeted to 89 by the 7th inning.

Don,
I was there last night, scoring the game up in 217 (although I might not do general admission again...that bench gets painful somewhere around the 6th inning).
Was the play in question in the 5th inning? If it was, then I'm pretty sure it was a balk. Hitting the runner is nothing unless the ball goes flying; then it would be an error. Or was this another play that I missed?
Yeah, ol' Franklin Morales still needs a little seasoning before he heads back up to become a Rockies' mainstay. But he's still young.

Harvey Haddix

I remember seeing little Harvey Haddix pitch 12 perfect innings against the Braves in 1959, the first year I got interested in baseball, only to lose the game in the 13th on a double by Joe Adcock. Actually it was a home run, but a runner, I think Hank Aaron, was on base via an walk and once he scored, the game was over.

I lost a no-hitter in Little League. I walked the first four batters and then two errors by the second baseman (on the same play) allowed two additional runs to score. Over six innings, I struck out sixteen and walked ten. It was my only uniformed pitching experience.
I was much better at stickball, where I used to play (for money), and regularly beat, players older than me.
