Reader poll: Runoff for Portland mayor?

The Portland mayor's race is the focus of today's political poll. The two frontrunners are way out ahead of the lesser known candidates, and most pundits give Sam Adams the edge over Sho Dozono. But what do pundits know? There were probably plenty of people who were banking on Frank Ivancie over Bud Clark way back when, and look how that turned out.

Anyway, people, give us your prognostication about where it will all wind up on Tuesday night -- your prediction, not your preference:

What will be the outcome of the primary election for mayor of Portland?
Adams wins outright
Dozono wins outright
Adams-Dozono runoff
A different outcome

I don't like "Tax 'em Sam" Adams because he will burden Portlanders with more taxes & fees if he becomes mayor.

In addition, he has NOT done a good job as head of Portland Dep't of Transportation - look at all the road delays, construction, closed sidewalks, etc. that has strangled Portland for the past two years.

Further, I question why "Tax 'em Sam" Adams needs a staff of NINE taxpayer-paid employees. I think this demonstrates his waste and lack of regard of our public money.

Finally, his attitude is arrogant, cocky and abrasive - someone like that should not be mayor.

I am hoping for at least an Adams-Dozono runoff. But have to admit that I have been underwhelmed by the Dozono campaign so far.

Sam's slimy tactic trying to use the courts to remove Sho from contention and Portland's apparent apathy towards the move just show how bankrupt Mr. Adams is ethically, where his true intentions lie and just how willing Portland is to turn a blind eye to someone so long as he is a bleeding-heart.

Did I say bleeding heart, I mean a career politician who is more concerned with wastefully spending other people's money than saving it.

Clearly Sam and Weiner have seduced (and spoon fed) the local media into thinking it'll be a slam dunk. Watch for a surprise next week. Sam has no charisma like Bud or Vera or even Tom when he beat Francesconi like an old rug.

I sure wish Dozono was publicly hammering Adams on all of his shenanigans. I believe there's a time and place for negative ads, and Sam threw the first punch by trying to get Sho disqualified.

The fact is that most Portland voters are so detached from what's going on in City Hall that they just don't have a clue. Who's going to tell them?

As a former banquet waiter who waited on Ivancie and Clark many times, I can say Bud Clark's surprise victory was my favorite political moment other than the resignation of Richard Nixon.
Of course, that could be updated next year with the trials of Bush and Cheney.
I'm voting for Dozono because everything Sam Adams does sounds like someone bragging. Here's my impression of running into him at City Hall.
"Good morning, Sam. Looks like a nice day. The sun is out."
"Yes, and did I mention I've supported solar energy from the beginning and set up an independent commission to study solar power?"
"Whatever."
Everything's a bragging moment and I don't want him to use Portland as an expression of his ego. That's what the stupid bridge idea was really all about.
He wanted to see it and think, "I did that!" Well, we can't afford a mayor who's building monuments to himself. It's too expensive.
I always say we should be preparing for the earthquake we know is coming. Nothing about this week has changed that.

@ Bill McDonald:

Don't worry, you'll afford those ego monuments, with more municipal taxes coming from the anti-car laws which are now in effect for instance, those idiotic green bars in the road, I can't think of a single person outside of Oregon who thinks that giving the bikers more rights than cars on the road is/was a good idea. This whole town has a Sam Adams ego problem and someday it's gonna implode on itself but that wont happen until those responsible are long gone, wrecking some other town.

What anti-car laws? There are few more safety precautions being made for bikes. Also what taxes are you all talking about? We basically eliminated property taxes in Oregon with Measure 5. We have a nice old man for mayor for long enough.

No anti-car laws like the existence of busses. Don't you know that everyone should drive a car as the ultimate expresion of their individualism?

(Or is it a gun and a concealed carry permit as the ultimate expression of my individualism?)

No it's driving a car while carrying a gun with a concealed carry permit as the ultimate expression of my individualism. Got it? :-)

Greg C

Don't be trying to cut me off on the freeway brother or I may ultimately express my individualism.

I don't see a runoff here. The "lesser known" candidates aren't going to draw many votes. Even if they get 5%, Sho is going to have to get 45.1% to force a runoff, which is a tall order for him.

Did you see the Biz Journal poll?
It shows a big victory for Sho!

For anyone who is not pro-
Sam we are hoping for a run-off and will need all the help we can get. Please contact me at kristen@shoformayor.com. Let's make some changes in this city!
