My elementary school, circa 1950s, had a large circular basin in the boys lavatory (probably the girls', too) so that many boys could wash their hands at once. There was a circular metal hoop below that caused the water to jet out like a fountain when you stepped on it.
There are a couple that Jack should be able to answer: 1) whether shareware authors pay taxes on $20 donations, and 2) why there are no tax credits for solar (I thought there was at one time).
According to the National Brain Tumor Foundation (PDF in link), several studies have found no association between cell phone use and increased risk of brain tumors. However, many studies were done when cell phones were predominately analog, and when overall cell phone use was much lower than today. Also, some brain tumors develop over a long period of time.
For those reasons, researchers recognize that additional study is needed. A 3-year-old Swedish study suggests a link between 10-plus years of cell use and a benign tumor in the auditory nerve on the side of the head where you use your phone, but the NBTF says that support for this conclusion in other studies is “weak.”
Other studies are underway, but to date none have shown a link between cell phone use and malignant tumors. Results of a major study from the World Health Organization were expected last year, but I couldn’t find any information at the WHO or NBTF websites.
In the meantime, the WHO suggests you keep your calls short and get a hands-free device.

Do cellphones cause brain cancer?
