It's been over a decade since I've been to Portland. Now I wonder why it's been so long.
I was impressed with the cab drivers, bus drivers, service people and others who were incredibly helpful with directions and suggestions. I loved my delicious victory dinner at Huber's and our hilarious waitress Roxanne.
This was my first full marathon. I got hurt about 6 weeks ago, so I knew I'd be walking the course. I worried about how things would be 6 - 7 hours into the race. I shouldn't have.
I was impressed with the organization; the cheerful volunteers who made sure we got water, juice, chips and all sorts of other fuel as we crossed the finish line, who cheered us on and returned every smile; the relaxed "vibe" of the race participants and the sheer number of spectators still on the course late into the race.
I really appreciated the volume of water/electrolyte/carb replacement available -- especially after hearing about the tragedy in Chicago. The sponsors were very generous.
Thank you, Portland!
