Coach K, as in Krap
To the chokers -- chokers! -- of Duke: Thanks for screwing up my tournament bracket. Can't even make foul shots -- scared faces the whole second half -- tentative offense -- pitiful! Please -- next year, the NIT, if that.
UPDATE, 8:44 p.m.: With more disastrous performances by my other tentative white boy team picks for the first day, BYU and Gonzaga, I'm done worrying about this for another year. Good thing, too -- the commercials are on the screen more than any actual basketball, and it has gotten old quick. For those who still have a stake in The Madness, have fun and good luck.

This was their, what, fourth loss in a row? Whatcha doin' puttin' Duke deep in the tourney, anyhow?

I didn't go deep at all -- just a first round win, and then out. Same is true of all of my first-day losers -- I had them all picked to go down in the next round. But you can't go 12-4 the first day and actually win one of these things.

The commercial timeouts after every stoppage of play down the stretch of every game are really lame. Let's watch college basketball, not a three-week Super Bowl.

What really matters is that your Final Four remain in tact, so I think you're still in this thing, Jack.
And I agree about the commercials, it's getting ridiculous.

Jack, oh yee of little faith...
I agree with Justin.
If your Final Four is intact, you are still in the pool.
You have to remember, how may other folks picked Duke and got hammered?
If you didn't have them go to the Sweet 16, you should be in good shape.
12-4 is excellent, especially with the four losses not hampering the other rounds.

You don't understand -- I'm in the pool with a bunch of sharks!

All I know is I have a new favorite player.

Duke and Gonzaga both losing. Too much to ask for. Overhyped teams with annoying fans. Go Vanderbilt.

Which is more annoying:
A) Hearing "This is our country . . ." for the fiftieth time;
B) Listening to Dick Vitale and the other Coach K apologists defend Coach K by arguing that he was too busy coaching last year's U.S. national team to recruit All Americans that were good fits for Duke as opposed to just All Americans; or
C) Having your spouse pick more games correctly than you did even though she hasn't watched a game this year?
I vote for Vitale . . .

Jack,
Did you pick Notre Dame too?
Posted by Bark Munster | March 16, 2007 2:58 PM
No, I had Winthrop.
Todays' disaster (so far) was Georgia Tech. Poor coaching of a talented bunch of players.

Like the rest of televised sports, it ain't what it used to be (and probably never was). So many teams from the "big" conferences are making the cut that have no business being there, while deserving teams from smaller conferences are left out. It's totally about ratings and advertising dollars now. The actual basketball is mostly an after-thought. My son's soccer games were more exciting...
