They paved paradise

Do you know that beautiful Queen Anne mansion that you see when you go over the Ross Island Bridge eastbound? Did you know that it used to have a twin on the other side of Powell? Dan Haneckow over at Cafe Unknown does another spectacular job of giving us the history. You blog award nominators out there, check him out.

Modern planners would not tear down a beautiful home for a parking lot- but they frequently do it to build five story condo farms.

I was just reading that last night. It tears my heart out to see that twin house falling like that in the pic that made it into LIfe mag. What I wouldn't give to have been able to snag doorknobs and period wood and such. Such a waste.
Not to mention the fact that they really did pave paradise!
