Great news and terrible news
Bob Borden of bobborden.com has been promoted to writer at The Late Show with David Letterman.
The downside: He's shutting down his highly entertaining personal website as of the end of the month.
Bob's threatened to do this before and changed his mind, but now that he's officially writing for Dave, I'm pretty sure this is it.
Damn, this hurts, am I right, people?

Don't know Bob, and I haven't watched the Letterman Show in ten years. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, now that's quality programming.

Well, aren't you Mr. Sunshine?
Letterman needs all the writing help he can get these days, but it's still a darn good show in the Carson tradition.

The Tivo is set to record Letterman every night, come Hell or highwater. It grabs Colbert on the middle-of-the-night rerun (complete with Girls Gone Wild! ads). I don't watch Dave as much as I wish, but boy howdy. Anytime I punch up one of his shows, it's like a freaking party and he always gives me something new. Creatively he's left Leno in the dust and has earned a rightful place alongside Johnny in the Pantheon. Is he mailing it in? Maybe. But he's still the best damned thing on at that hour. Stewart and Colbert still have a long way to go. In a decade, they may well be Rowan and Martin.

Rowan and Martin.
Ah crap. I'm old, aren't I?

Well, you may be old, but the DVDs of Laugh-In are great!
I think Dave is, in a funny way, underrated. And when I realize that I have been watching him since his morning show that was on in 1980, the Carson references are apt. 'Will it Float' has had its day though.....

Letterman's got Leno beat but his nightly skits have really become redundant. "Will It Float" is a dead horse they've been rolling out at least once a week for years now. The trivia questions with the audience are always tedious. Despite that, he's still the best interviewer late night TV has to offer.

*Cough* Charlie Rose *Cough*
But Dave DOES get another whack at O'Reilly next week. O'Reilly's already announced he's not gonna get whacked by Dave again. I may want to fireproof my Tivo.

Unless you meant the Kilborn version. You know, when it was actually funny...
