Another Blazer bum walks

It looks as though thug Ruben Patterson doesn't want to play on the Blazers any more. He and new coach Nate McMillan aren't seeing eye to eye, and Ruben's been kicked off the team, at least temporarily.

So long, guy. Don't let the door hit you.

Fine by me. I propose a new rule: if a guy has to register as a sex offender in your community before he joins your team, you probably don't want him.

Makes me remember what someone said about the Darius Miles/Mo Cheeks thing when McMillan took over: "By the time Miles said his first 'n word,' Nate's fist would be halfway down his throat."

Go Nate.

Yeah, I know he's a "bad boy", but I think he was a good citizen while here. I would have sent him home too. I will miss his hustle. Seems Miles and Zbo could learn from him. At least he wasn't a sucker puncher like Zbo.

He forced himself on his nanny while in Seattle. Then hit his wife at their Tualatin home a couple of seasons back. He got sent home last year to get his head straight as well. He's a bad BAD person. Here's hoping they can get him to the Knicks, who seem to want him.

Dave J - I agree! Nate shouldn't have to take this type of behavior. And more power to management for finally backing the coach.

He's the last thing Larry Brown and the Knicks need, but if they want him, let's see what they offer.

I can guarantee who we would have received in the Bob Witless days--Stephon Marbury. Character problems? Check. Fills a position we're already overstocked at? Check. Best years probably behind him? Check. Huge contract? Check. 4 for 4, baby!

Chris - For historical accuracy, I think the nanny was raped in Tualatin.

I really don't know why they are even keeping this guy. The problem is alone, they don't do much damage, it is just when they find a buddy to back them (remember Bonzi and Rasheed), these things go south quickly.

Here's hoping they can get a good outside shooter in trade. To be fair, I think the Blazers would take any offer - just not too many teams need a SF with bad shooting.

The nanny incident did occur in Seattle. Portland's offer came a few months after he was convicted. He had to register as a sex offender when he moved here.

Alford plea for third-dgree rape for forcing her to perform oral sex = 15 day in-home "jail" sentence

The civil case was reportedly settled out of court in the mid six-figure range.

Of course he is the last thing the Knicks need (don't they have like 6 undersized Power forwards already?) but since when has that stopped them before:-)

I think the good news is the new Blazers brain trust understands contracts and the salary cap and will simply pay Patterson not to play rather than swap him for a bad contract.

ellie - OK, thanks, I stand corrected.

Eric - If anyone in the league would overpay for another forward, it would be Isiah, so there is hope.
