Devolution

First there were "web logs," then "weblogs," then "blogs." Fine.

But when did some lame copy editor come up with "web blogs"?

These are the folks who brought you the VIN number, the PIN number, and the MAC Club. It's your standard duplonym.

Also ATM machine, GPS system and Navy NCIS.

You'll notice the article was written locally by a producer at KGW.com. You can bet the Velvettes would have known better.

While we're on the subject, keep senior Velvette Eric Marentette in your thoughts as he's been dispatched to NOLA (Baton Rouge, actually) to help out with OLive's sister-site NOLA.com. They've been going non-stop since Sunday, getting over a million visitors a day. All that while being victims of the devastation themselves.

Global Positioning Satellite System? Not really an anadiplosis. Failed to find the word "duplonym" (which I like) while researching reduplicative forms but a positve contibution to the spirit of editor vs. web web log blog entry. As Hilary pointed out when Drudge first let the Monica story blow, "There Are No Editors On The Internet!" Thank goodness! Will Clinton fail in her attempt to be the first ALL CAPS President of the United States. She'd have to spend $$$$ like she spends !!!!!

I've seen "CNN Network" and "HIV Virus" in news stories over the years.

I enjoyed your story on the Bog Blog yesterday on KXL, and sex in the Bog Blog website confusion. In the light of sick humor, I learned of Commercial Bog sex while doing a damage accessment of Portland public porta-potties. Thinking I had seen it all, I thought the holes cut into the plactic porta-bogs waist high between adjacent units were for transacting drug deals from porta-bog to porta-bog, the security person I was with just grinned and said my assumption was incorrect they were called "glory holes" and used for conducting another type of commerce. BOG-ON Jack.

A current headline on KGW: Search for survirors continues, although counting dead begins

Survirors unite.
