Maybe they should do late-night infomercials
We were checking out the schedule for this year's Sunday Parkways event in Portland -- it's relatively harmless, but not much fun unless you're on a bike -- when we noticed that one of the sponsors of the event is the city's sewer department -- the Bureau of Environmental Services. Don't they have enough to do, and enough mega-expenses weighing us all down, without getting into sponsoring other bureau's activities? Aren't our sewer bills high enough without paying for bike days out of them?
It reminds us of the Portland public schools buying sponsorships on public radio. Government p.r. has really gotten out of control. You wish somebody would step up and do something about it.

Which reminds of my question about US Postal sponsoring Lance. How DID that help the postal business again.

Excessive feelgood p/r from your own government isn't just a blatant and offensive display of "perception management", it's also an act of desperation by a government that is well aware they've lost the people's trust.

We need to pressure the city council to reduce the PR staffs- you know, the folks who post untrue statements on bureau websites and ignore the city auditor.

Sunday Parkways: Gives PBOT a reason to use all those street barricades and temporary street signs they own, since they don't actually pave streets.

The government military brands buy advertising, which keeps any manner of FOXLies TV and HateLies radio in business ... by the skin of their teeth.
" You wish somebody would step up and do something about it" to abolish all the merry-betray industry wasted spending
Just line-item veto the Pentagon budget

Ha! Portland is way behind LO on the Facebook lovefest. Our city departments each have pages and they all spend time "liking" each other. Someone is paying for all of this lovey-dovey back-and-forth, but other than having their required presence on social media, these sites don't accomplish a thing. PR flacks must get training somewhere in how to make themselves irreverent.

Perhaps PDOT should suspend Sunday Parkways for a year or two, and use the money to fix some streets.
