I love a song where the chords are deep enough without any words or melody. Just stick a beat on it. Prince really shows that with his composition here. John Lennon had that too. If you take the chords to "Starting Over" or "Imagine" it has that same kind of haunting presence where you know they've been thought out by someone who really can write a tune. Prince is a monster.

That he is. But Prince can do rock and roll - in fact, some of his minor little throwaway rock songs that didn't get noticed hardly at all are some of my favorites:
