Pro football goes to the 'dogs
The puppies were a-mighty cute today in the NFL, with all five 5-point underdogs winning their games outright this weekend. True that, it was a great day to be a “fiver,” however, I’d trade it all to be a DB Cooper!

DB's picked four winners in six weeks, including the big nine-pointer in the season's opening week.

I’ll have what he’s having!

A few years back I suggested that you run a mirror version of the underdog game you wrote so engagingly about, and you picked it up and turned it into the intriguing thing it is.
Alas, for me and some others, the bloom is off the rose with it, nicely described here.

It's brutal, and some day many thinking people won't watch it. But it will probably always be around, and popular. Look at all the fighting sports, getting uglier by the decade.
Right now, kids should not be allowed to play tackle football until they're 18. Little eight-year-olds running around giving each other concussions is particularly irresponsible. Among consenting adults, however, football should be allowed as long as the risks are fully disclosed. It's going to be an interesting dialogue over the next decade or two, that's for sure.

I am haunted by the the thought that a dog can turn on you at any moment. I have truly been lucky so far.

I think that would work fine, because, like cigarettes, I think tackle football is not something very many take up as adults. A few, sure, but nothing like the numbers needed to maintain its position.
I note that it would also have a positive effect on colleges, where it's primarily football that powers the dominance of the jock culture over all others.

Brutal to pick against my Niners but I could see the handwriting on the wall. Eli is just too good on the road.
