Would you go deer hunting with Paul Ryan?

Dick Cheney might blow your face off, but with this guy, you could get an arrow where you don't want it.

Holy Cow! Vote for Romney-Ryan and you're going to be shot with an arrow! Can it get any worse than that?

People that need to kill animals have issues.

Great a Hunter, and an Outdoorsman, something we don't have enough of here in Oregon anymore. I spend 2+ weekends a month escaping our high density prison here in Portland for the outdoors to hike, fish, camp, boat, or ski away from the city. The City is a place to live for the convenience of service, but the hustle & bustle of city life is for the birds.

Bart, next time you get a Cheeseburger at Little Big Burger, Burgerville, Helvetia Tavern, Stanich's, Nob Hill or the new Yaws, remember where your food comes from... People with obvious issues.

Jack, are you suggesting that Ryan is going to accidentally graze a hunter who did not announce himself (a profound breach of weapons-free protocol) before approaching the blind?

Because if he did (unlikely as it may be), then I wouldn't think of him as a cold-blooded people hater, any more than I did when Cheney encountered that same scenario.

Harry Whittington caught a few pellets of birdshot, visited the hospital, and made a full recovery. He was lucky, and the VP was relieved, as was everybody else (except perhaps Cheney haters).

Hunting is deadly dangerous, and everybody present must follow all of the rules, all of the time. Harry knew that, but accidents do happen.

So I'm not sure how this six year old unintentional incident reflects upon Paul Ryan, his hunting partners, his choice of weapon, or him in general.

Hunting is a boorish and selfish pastIme. One more reason to enjoy watching Romney/Ryan lose in November.

Last I checked, the President and his crew conspicuously consume delicious meat products with notable frequency:

Now of course, that hamburger patty wasn't bow-hunted; but if you think commercial slaughterhouses are more humane than your average hunter, then I beg to differ.

Ryan apparently is one of those misguided "trophy" hunters -- next up on his bucket list is a bunch of sheep. Should be easy pickins in D.C. Maybe he'll just sneak up K Street just before dawn...nah, he certainly won't, ever.

Disagree with the man's policies, ideas, and record if you like; however, it's a far different thing to insinuate that he would commit a violent act. Evidence?

I call for a return to civility, and the repudiation of violent, eliminationist rhetoric. Wait, sorry, that was the other team's hang-up. Say just what you feel.

Yes, I realize that you followed up with "nah, he certainly won't, ever", so it's a modified limited hang-out with plausible deniability. Like it never happened!

So are all hunters evil, or only famous conservatives? For example, did Theodore Roosevelt stop being evil when he founded the Progressive Party?

Downtown Denny: either take a vacation or take a humor pill. Sheesh. You totally missed. I'm a life-long archer, btw. Keep your powder dry.

I'm with Downtown Denizen on this one. It's an easy, but IMO, unwarranted jump from Cheney's errant shot to the potential for one from Ryan. Nothing in the article suggests any type of irresponsibility or negligence.

Politics aside - and Ryan's are not mine - I am happy to see a candidate who is a health conscious outdoorsman.

The "killing animals = issues" crowd is deluding itself unless they've never eaten an animal product.

Quel horreur! I am so bummed!

Bow hunting takes skill in not only being able to shoot an animal in the right place, but also silently tracking it to get close enough for a shot.

I would rather all hunters use a weapon that gives the animal more chances than somebody that can fire away from hundreds of yards.

Regardless of your position, the point is:

Fantasizing about Ryan hunting the Most Dangerous Game is counterproductive, frivolous, and only helps his opponents.

I fantasize about Ryan paying down the national debt, and getting the government the hell off my back. And mowing the lawn. Shirtless.
