Hales talking sales tax
He seems to fudge a little, but the headline says that old Char-Lie endorsed a statewide sales tax, like the one he paid when he lived in Washington but voted in Oregon. It's "for the children," of course. Meanwhile his crazy opponent, as usual, talked out of both sides of his mouth and managed to say nothing. Score one for Nutsy.

Calling for a sales tax seems like campaign suicide. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Nutsy comes up with something even more crazy than this before it's all over.

A decision to move to Vancouver is getting easier every day.

A pity a deep pockets third candidate isn't running a write in campaign...

Smart Washington residents don't pay sales tax. Cascade Station exists to serve them, not Oregonians. Conveniently located just off the I-205/SR 14 interchange.

Some people will do or say anything to get elected. Jusy look at Sammyboy and his special interest agenda.

Must have finally got a serious backgrounder on the City's finances. Scary stuff.

I could actually get behind comprehensive state tax reform, by imposing a 5% sales tax for general government, and a 5-15% income tax for education, but that tax reform would have to be strongly protected and not subject to Legislative changes; would require double-double-majority votes to change (either the tax rate or the funding recipients)...
But what is with City of Portland candidates dealing with issues that are outside the city's jurisdiction? Here's a better suggestion - any City candidate that suggests any change to law or taxes that affect residents outside the City, must be elected by those affected residents. A state sales tax? Congratulations, the city mayoral race will now be a statewide race.
