Thumper Humphreys wins arbitration
The Portland cops who brutally killed James Chasse are going to get off with no discipline at all, thanks to another wonderful ruling by another wonderful arbitrator.
"I can't say it surprises me," said Tom Steenson, the attorney who represented Chasse's family and won a $1.6 million settlement against the city in 2010 after filing a federal wrongful death civil lawsuit in Chasse's death. "The city is incapable of having any kind of system in place to control its officers. They're just free-wheeling, doing whatever they want to do, and they get away with it. It's sad."
This city is simply disgusting any more.

Jack, could it ever get bad enough for you to consider moving out of Portland proper?
I would never call you a quitter, but every person of conscience has their limits.
At some level, you should be happy where you live.

While I didn't move away due to the nonsense it is a major factor keeping me from moving back. Every major activity just seems to be more difficult there. I don't think you realize how zany it is until you move away.
We've mostly stopped selling our berries in the metro area due to all of the hoops and baloney. You'd think a small family business selling fresh picked organically produced berries would do well in Portland.
Contrary to the hype, they do not sell worth a damn at farmer's markets in Portland. Everyone is broke and you can't buy much if you are going by bike. People come to be cool but not to buy groceries.
Sad really.

What I think about is that part of being happy in a community where one lives is living with a community of people who care, who care enough to engage to make better. I don't see this here, I do appreciate having Jack's blog to know there are others here who do see what is going on and writing about it, etc. But as for the people who are head in sand, or just don't know, or ? ? ?
I understand that when kept in dark, it doesn't make for an informed community.
Too sad to write anymore at this time.
