Let's sing this one together

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!

America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!

America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

Lyrics by Katharine Lee Bates

And today we come together as one nation and thank those that had the foresight to build this great nation that we call home. They were willing to sacrifice it all to give us the liberty that we enjoy today.

Enjoy the day, the parades, the bbq, and the fireworks!

We Americans need to pay more attention to that last verse.

Also the verses we seem to never hear of This Land (Was Made for You and Me).

The one time I was in South Dakota, I made it point to see Mount Rushmore. The figures are smaller in person, but no less impressive.

My favorite Rushmore photo is one I took myself. I posted it here.

Thanks Jack for the photo and the song lyrics. Just what we need to see and think about today. No matter what one's political and social views, there's arguably much to legitimately complain about in our system. But in a world where tyranny, despotism, torture, starvation, and often total lack of civil liberties abound in many lands are we not truly fortunate to be Americans, even with our country's flaws?? Would we really rather be anything else? I gripe as much as the next guy, but today I am nothing but thankful to be able to freely say all this on your website in this country. Thank you Jack; thank you America....
