Char-Lie wants to destroy bald eagle habitat more slowly

Portland's Great Prevaricator has an "I'm greener than you" challenge for Nutsy Smith:

Hales then ups the environmental ante on Smith, asking him to join in pushing City Hall to slow its deal for a shipping terminal on West Hayden Island.

"North Portland is getting run over around the future of Hayden Island as well," Hales says in the statement. "I hope my opponent for Mayor will join me in pressing our City Council to slow down and comprehensively study the situation so that a solution can be developed that all parties can live with — even the wildlife for whom we are also supposed to defend."

Notice, he wants to slow down, not kill, the paving over of bald eagle habitat. What more is there to "comprehensively study," dude? The fix is in between the Sam Rand Twins and the Port, and has been for a long time. As Willy Week itself now acknowledges, a deal has already been made.

The pace of the destruction is not the issue. You're either for preserving West Hayden Island, or you're not for preserving it. It's like, you either live in Oregon or live in Washington.

It boggles the mind how they are planning to develop that island, downstream from an 80 year-old dam in the midst of a hyperactive earthquake risk area with active volcanoes all around. Stupid stupid stupid.

What nitwit insurance companies are supposedly going to accept that risk? No governmental should be allowed to take it on, either.

It's the most unnecessary development proposal for Portland, among many that are terrifyingly delusional or outright lootings of the rapidly dwindling public treasury. Major violation of the Public Trust.

Hales, you lyin' fool. Go back to Vancouver and play with your train sets.

I have mentioned before that Hales is very clever with words or tries anyway.
Hales cannot be trusted to be a good steward,
he wasn't with our public parks though now he claims otherwise.

We need to elect Smith to hasten the crackup. After that, hopefully, the people will elect some people who will run city services, instead of having a vision of how all Portlanders should live, or some crackpot idea of how our little city can save the world from climate disruption, peak oil, peak gas, running out of land while getting ready for the coming hordes, attracting young creatives while actually saving our city from sanity.

PS: The only good city planner is one who has renounced city planning.

Thanks
JK

While I'm not the greenest of green people, I'm not the hippest of hipsters either. I happen to have seen a bald eagle within arm's reach. Screw all the patriots and false patriots trying to use my national pride against me.

This animal is great. To see one up close in the wild will alter your perception of right and wrong. I am profoundly radical on this issue.

You don't have to be as black and white as I am. Just please vote for people that would save these creatures.

Damn the owls. If we can't preserve this eagle we do not deserve to be stewards of this country.

Your Welcome
JB

God dammit. "You're Welcome"

Let us not forget, in Pier Park in St. Johns, Charlie had red x's on 75 Firs and Cedars to be chopped, the community rose up and saved them. Point being this and other abuses of park land including selling Johnswood Park in St. Johns for a housing development is telling.
He is not a good steward of the land or environment. In my opinion he likes to run with the Friends of Trees for his "environmental image" and as far as I can tell, this organization is about planting urban trees, and has not stood up to save any huge trees. This may be about the smart growth agenda, where big trees are in the way of development, so to make up for the loss, they need to plant many many little trees to keep some semblance of greenery left in our "green" city!

The longer you wait the more eagles to kill.

Maybe we can export some Sumatran Rhinos there too and sell off Safari hunting passes for the Pork of Portland officials.

Nice try Charlie , but neither one of you gets my vote til you come out against this completely unneeded boondoggle. Green matters here , and this is where the rubber meets the road , boys. Which one of you is man enough to stand up to the Port and represent the Will of the People of Portland.

"even the wildlife for whom we are also supposed to defend."

Sounds like Hales still hasn't found a competent writer/editor.

...but neither one of you gets my vote til you come out against this completely unneeded boondoggle...

Where do they stand on a long list of unneeded boondoggles?
