Crazy era begins for Willamette Week

With the quick ascension of Ellen Rosenblum to the position of Oregon attorney general, media watchers are turning their attention to Willamette Week, the weekly newspaper whose publisher is Rosenblum's husband, Richard Meeker. WW loudly declined to provide any coverage of the attorney general's race just concluded, but it can't not cover the state justice department for the next four and a half years. Nothing it can do will completely erase every reader's doubts about impartiality going forward, but surely it'll have to try something, and soon -- she'll be sworn in on June 29.

Speaking of which, that's a Friday. Why not Monday, July 2? Wonder if the timing affects her state pension. She's already racked up many years in the system as a judge, at a substantially higher salary than she'll make as AG.

Timing?

I think that Kroger's resignation is effective 29 June, so Rosenblum will be sworn in as hois resignation becomes reffective. Idea probably is to have no gap or vacancy in the office. I doubt that two or three days will have ane effect upon her pension.

Where was Rosenblum on the State PERS benefit list that was published several months ago? Certainly she wasn't the Belotti cl;ass, but it had to be good.

Is the AG salary a cut from her annual pension take?

Does she keep both the pension and the AG salary?

She also had money vested with the feds under their plan from her days as an Assistant United States Attorney.

It still won't all add up to what a Stoel Rives senior partner retires with though, will it Jack?

You'd have to ask one. When I left the firm after a year as a partner, I got a big $2400.

Answering one of my own questions above, Rosenblum's PERS benefit is $ 101,124.00.

Jack, you should have stayed at Stoel as long as Rosenblum was on the bench.

This would be an ideal time for Meeker to call it a career. The newspaper biz is going to hell anyway, and WW has clearly lost whatever good-government scruples it might still have had, as demonstrated by the endorsement of serial tax cheat Hales. Sell it while you can and get out.
