Portland politics: Where incest is the norm
Did you know that the mayor of Milwaukie is a Tri-Met employee? Well, don't worry, he'll be leaving the transit agency's employ soon -- for the Portland streetcar! We wish we were making this up.

That Mayor was not long for that town. He had to leave or he would have been bounced and he knew it.
Some people think incest is a feature of politics, not a bug.

Isn't that just wonderful!
Now what about the people that do not have access to transit because the buses have been cut? Is there going to be a news story about them?
Once again it is time to end Tri-met's monopoly and open the market.

Who said he was going to stop being mayor? No way!

Given that Portland Streetcar, Inc. is so intertwined with TriMet; that TriMet funds the Streetcar to the tune of nearly $10 million annually with regional transportation funds...one has to wonder if this position is actually being paid for by TriMet, and if so is it not still a conflict of interest because he is being paid indirectly by TriMet?
And...then why is he in favor of the Streetcar giving away $1.00 rides (currently free) in competition with Trimet's rides which will cost $2.50 for the same distance/time of service - and that TriMet is paying the difference? Why don't Milwaukie residents get to ride the bus in downtown Milwaukie for a buck? Or Tigard, or Beaverton, or Forest Grove, or Troutdale residents - for that matter?
